The 2021 MotoGP champion Fabio Quartararo faced a challenging Italian Grand Prix weekend. A hard crash on Friday led to a dislocated shoulder and a hospital visit, while his strong qualifying display was overshadowed by poor race pace. Quartararo, known for his excellent qualifying performances, admirably secured fourth place at Mugello despite the shoulder injury, but struggled during the race, dropping down the order rapidly. He finished the race as the fourth slowest bike on track and left with no points after losing out to Fermin Aldeguer in a late-race battle. Quartararo attributed his issues to “chatter” and other unidentified factors affecting the bike’s performance, stating his concern over the new problem. Despite the injury from Friday, Quartararo clarified that it didn’t impact his race result. He expressed disappointment in the Yamaha’s straight-line speed, emphasizing the ease with which Ducatis overtook him, making racing challenging, especially with poor trackability.
